Tioga Park Falls and Park

Tioga Park is a small roadside park on the south side of US-41. Although not well marked, there's a waterfall to be seen here, too. Although the parking area for the park is small, there’s an outhouse-style bathroom and access to the Tioga River.

Just past the parking area is a large green space with a bridge that crosses the river. This is an ideal place to get out of the car and stretch your legs. If you follow the paved path back through the grass, you’ll eventually find yourself on a narrow, rugged trail that follows the Tioga River. After a short walk, you’ll reach Tioga Park Falls. Some may consider this water feature to be a section of small rapids rather than a waterfall; however, the view is worth the walk.

On my last visit, the trail had become overgrown and had multiple fallen trees overtaking it. I’m unsure if the park management was working to make the trail better or whether mother nature (or beavers) were hard at work to ensure humans couldn’t access the falls. It’s still manageable, but not as easy as it once was to reach Tioga Park Falls.

At the time of writing, the Tioga River is a Type 1 trout stream, which means you can fish (and keep) Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout from its waters. Be sure to check the Fishing Guide for up-to-date information, as this changes year-to-year.

Tioga Park Falls and the grassy area that leads to it offer a great place to get out of the car to stretch your legs, see a quaint waterfall, or wet your fishing line. It's a good stop on the way to or from the Keweenaw Peninsula and will be less crowded than the popular Canyon Falls Roadside Park!
