Hunter’s Point Park

Copper Harbor has its fair share of parks, but I have to admit that Hunter’s Point was by far my favorite. We started by venturing out to Agate Beach, which is accessible by walking north from the parking lot and going left at the end of the boardwalk. The rocks here are red as could be, and there were loads of people picking through the rocks on the shoreline.

After hanging out at the beach for a while, we decided to hike out to the point. The trails wind through woods and are fairly rocky. There is a north shore trail and a south shore trail that sometimes intertwine. At the trail's end, you reach a rocky outcropping and are greeted with a magnificent view of Copper Harbor, Porters Island, and Lake Superior.

We waded through Superior’s ice-cold water to climb onto different rocks jutting out from the lake, saw a few cool rocks, and just hung out for almost an hour. It really is a beautiful place to enjoy everything Copper Harbor has to offer and a great place to watch the Queen IV take brave passengers to and from Isle Royale, some 60 miles across Lake Superior. If you’re in Copper Harbor, you’ve just got to stop at Hunter’s Point Park, especially if you love rock hunting.

There are now signs that say you are not allowed to remove rocks from the park. If this changes, we will update the page.
