Houghton Township Square Park

Across the street from Eagle River Falls is the Houghton Township Community Center, a historic building that is the centerpiece of a park that opened during the pandemic. Houghton Township Square Park has a pavilion, stage, walking path, playground, dog run, and sports amenities. Best of all, you have a stunning view of Lake Superior no matter where you look.

Compared to the natural beauty presented by the rest of the Keweenaw, the park amenities might not seem like much. I have to admit, while I’m visiting the Keweenaw, a standard park isn’t on the top of my list. However, we really enjoyed the half-hour we spent at the park, and we will definitely be back. We were the only ones there when we visited, and the view of Lake Superior towering over the Jam Lady isn’t one I will soon forget!

The sports facilities available at the park are suited for horseshoes, basketball, volleyball, disc golf, baseball, soccer, and kickball. Community events occur here in the summertime, and you can rent the facilities for private events, too.
