Deerlick Creek Park

Deerlick Creek Park has quite a small footprint, but it is one of the prettiest parks in southwest Michigan. The parking area is tree-lined and overlooks the beach and Deerlick Creek. Walking out to the beach, the creek curves into the lake, quite a ways from where it started just north of Covert.

The shoreline is rocky, and it isn’t uncommon to find rock hunters looking for treasures alongside it. I really enjoyed starting all the way at the rocky wall, jutting out into Lake Michigan on the right and following the shoreline into the river, checking out the rocks on the shore as I waded through the water. As you start to see less and less rocks, the scenery becomes more and more beautiful.

The folks who live across from the creek really want you to think that the area across from the creek is off-limits, but you may follow the water so long as you stay within the high water line. I have never gone over there, but their signs are a little ridiculous, so if you feel the need to, go ahead! We’ve hunted rocks, eaten meals, and just enjoyed Deerlick Creek Park a number of times, and it has yet to get old. I can’t wait to go back!
