Buttersville Park Beach

Buttersville Park Beach is a hilly beach across Pere Marquette Lake from Ludington. The beach is just down the road from Buttersville Campground, both of which are Pere Marquette Township Parks. The campground offers electric and non-electric sites that cost about the same as a night at a state park. The beach at Buttersville Park isn’t that long, but it allows you access to miles of beachfront. To the south, you can see dunes rising into wooded hills overlooking Lake Michigan, and to the north, you can see the north and south range lights of the Pere Marquette River Channel. There were more rocks here than we first imagined, and were happily surprised to find a few pretty stones to take home. Most of the rocks we were after were a few feet into the water, but it was well worth the wade into Lake Michigan for them. Although Buttersville Park is a little off the beaten path, it’s worth a stop if you want to get away from the crowds of downtown Ludington or want a secluded campsite within a moment's walk of the big lake.
