Calumet Waterworks Park

One of our favorite rock beaches, and, well…beaches in general, is Calumet Waterworks Park. If you’ve read our Rock Hunting Guide, you already know this. Located under 5 miles from the heart of downtown Calumet, the beach is a rockhound's paradise. It took us a dozen trips to find an agate here, but we’ve found dozens of pretty stones that tested our ability only to bring a couple of keepers home. It was rainy, foggy, and chilly on our first visit to the park. Our second visit was bursting with sunshine, and we’re sharing a smorgasbord of images between those two trips.

In addition to offering hours of fun hunting for stones, Calumet Waterworks Park has much more to offer. There are fire pits, grills for cooking, pavilions to rent, basketball and volleyball courts, play equipment for kids, and wide open green spaces to enjoy the outdoors. The Gardener’s Creek runs through the park's south side, which is quite beautiful and offers a few small falls and rapids upstream.

Calumet Waterworks Park is often our first stop after waking up in Calumet, and there’s something here for everyone.
